Melissa and Abigail had a great trip to Tennessee this week!
Our hotel was right on the edge of the Great Smoky Mtn National Park, so we were able to enjoy the amazing natural beauty of the forest, the fun of a theme park, and all the fun shops/restaurants of Pigeon Forge.
The highlights:
*Abigail's 1st road trip sitting up front *hotel on the river
*yummy dinners *riding roller coasters
*picnic/hikes in the Nat. Park *reading books/great talks
*sunroof open/radio loud *jacuzzi tub/bubbles
*shopping *driving home in the rain
This trip, for just the girls, was one of the privileges of motherhood. With no duties or deadlines, we had the chance to just have fun and make memories! We had some great talks. As Abigail grows older it is fun to see how our relationship changes and deepens. My role is slowly changing from caretaker to mentor. She is maturing from dependent to companion.
All of this and she is only eight!
I pray that God will show me how to wisely fill the role of mother through each of the seasons of her life. To cling enough that she feels secure, to release enough that she doesn't have to rebel, to prepare and equip her for the future...this is big stuff. But this week was a reminder that it is a very big blessing!

I can tell that you are a great Mom! It's the best to have our girl's growing up and becoming our best friends. I think it is really important to have that one on one time. I too am greatful for motherhood, it is such a great blessing!
What an amazing blessing to be able to spend this quality time with your sweet daughter. Times I'm sure she will treasure all her days. Hard to believe our girls are eight and nine, weren't they just three and four a second ago? But I agree that as they age our relationship deepens and grows more and more sweet.

You are pretty good at this blogging thing! good job!
Your "girls only" trip sounds wonderful. I still like doing "girls only" things with Robyn. She and I have such a very special relationship. I'm so glad you got to spend this time together. That left the "boys only" at home so they had their time too! Love you, Aunt Diane
