All summer long, we have been planning for a visit from some dear friends from Arizona. For these past months, our kids have followed any discovery or new game with: we want to show our friends when they get here. After seeing a local tourist site or yummy restaurant, Brent and I would agree that: we should definately take our friends there. Yep, we were all excited and in September... it was finally time!
With 5 children and 2100 miles stretching out before them, our friends headed east in their 15 passenger van with an enormous RV pulled from their bumper. After they had traveled across the continent of North America (in 4 days!), they arrived at the farm.
Peter, Emma, Ethan, Ana, Daniel, James, Abigail, Samuel:

Our kids were all so excited to see each other. They had days filled with giggling, playing and making memories. Some highlights were: riding bikes, American Girl, going to Luray Caverns, Awana night, playing at the park, a cookout with fireworks, and doing farm chores.
.
Working on the farm is what filled Brent and Robert's days. They butchered broiler chickens, moved cows, fed and moved layers, gathered and washed alot of eggs, and fixed some fence. Oh, they also got some cows out of a neighbor's pond...but that's a long story :) Most of the time, they took all or some of the willing little farm hands...

While all the activity swirled outside, the house was filled with friendship too. Over simmering pots, sinks of dishes and baskets of laundry, Melissa and Tiffany were able to catch up. While some long distance phone calls had kept us in touch, it was just so nice to spend time together. Peach iced tea and conversation were welcome gifts from home.
What a blessing that our friends would travel to share this time with us! We were so encouraged to have their perspective on the farm and to be able to show them where we have been dwelling this summer. It is such a gift to have friends that know you, love your kids and share your faith!
Sweet fellowship. Friends, you are missed already... now, we have no one to share dominoes and double stuffs! ;)

What a wonderful time! I wish I could come visit you, too. My soul could use some time away from the city.
