Our Spot

Twelve years ago, on March 30, 1997, Brent took me to this spot in the National Forest. He said that we were going on a picnic to celebrate my birthday that was going to be the next day. He made tortellini with sauce and a salad. He packed sparkling cider and crystal glasses.

After dinner, at this beautiful spot overlooking Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain, I opened a couple small gifts that he had wrapped for me. Then, he told me that he still had one more surprise. Brent ran to the truck and returned with a small black velvet box.

An engagement ring, a proposal ... life changed, at this spot.

In April of 1999, we had been married for a year and a half. Brent was running our business and I was busy with college classes. We returned to our special forest location for a picnic, but that time I packed dinner and a surprise.
A positive pregnancy test ... life changed, at this spot!

This week, we had a family date. We packed a yummy picnic lunch and took some time out from errands and packing. As the car twisted up the rocky dirt road, we told them our engagement story. We pointed out our first house and shared lots of great memories.

Life is changing again, we had to visit our spot one last time!
