In order to celebrate my birthday, we planned a little detour to Roundtop, Texas. This little tiny town plays host to a GIGANTIC antique show twice each year. They are kind enough to plan their spring fling right around my special day... so we celebrated together :)
There are no hotels in town, but we were able to rent a little blue cottage. As we pulled up to the fence about 20 cows greeted us and walked us up to the door. Bovine bellmen. . . that is Texas hospitality!
We enjoyed a super special birthday dinner at Royers Cafe, one of my favorites restaurants in the world. Brent had a great steak and I had grilled quail :) Then we ordered the world's best pie with a gift certificate from my sweet bible study girls! Pecan, Chocolate Chip, and Peach-and they top each slice with vanilla icecream. Did I mention they mail order? ;)
Let the antiquing begin! We spent 2 days searching grassy fields that were lined with booths full of salvaged treasures. All of us enjoyed one booth that had boxes of old game and puzzle pieces, old metal numbers and letters, costume jewelry. During the show, I bought 3 metal state trays from Montana, Arizona, and Virginia (yes, I'm feeling sentimental). We found a really great old factory cart that will become our coffee table. And Abigail got the spinniest red skirt that the Junk Gypsies had to offer.
After enjoyed the blue bonnets and rolling green hills, we drove up to the big city of Dallas. We were able to spend an evening with our sweet friends Sarah & Owen. They took us to a fun restaurant named Babe's Chicken House because it has amazing food, chicken coop decor and our friends have a total sense of humor :) The stories, laughs, hugs and fellowship were huge... but like they say, everything is bigger in Texas!
