the many faces of E

One of my favorite things about parenting is really getting to know my children.

When I was pregnant, I would imagine what each child looked like and I could picture their hair color, eyes, facial features. Each time... I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised.

Then, just when I thought I really knew each sweet baby, they learned to speak and I was surprised again. It is amazing how unique their perspectives and personalities are. It is like finding treasures that God has hidden within each one.

Ethan is our youngest blessing and is just starting to really blossom. Gone are the baby days, as we fly into bike riding, tall tale telling and lots of independence. Oh, the treasures God hid in this boy!

When I was pregnant, I had no idea that he would be born with red hair that would change to blonde. I still smile when I see his physical build that reminds me of my favorite grandpa. He shocked everyone by weighing just one ounce under 10 pounds. (well, I had my suspicions about that)

Ethan is our most active and fearless child. I am constantly surprised by the stunts he tries, but also by his willingness to help with work everyday. He is also our most affectionate child. Ethan's cuddles so bless my heart.

We were surprised when he still wasn't really talking by this summer. Verbally, that is... because we are champs at charades. Speech therapy is another adventure we didn't expect, but is going surprisingly well. And as these photos show, our boy has no problem expressing himself!

I am sure that we have many more surprises in store. Faith, academics, athletics, relationships, career... Yet, as the days go by, I see both passion and strength developing in Ethan's character. While I don't know exactly what God will call him to do, I am pretty confident that both of these traits will influence his life.

What fun to walk through these days together and wait with excitement for all of the details to be revealed!

Have I mentioned how much we love this boy?
