Modern Day Manna

Remember when God provided food for his people. They were in a new land, with new conditions and were pretty much unable to care for themselves? Well, our family has a new appreciation for this story.

When we arrived in Virginia this past May, we were definately in a similar situation. New land, new conditions, and yes...pretty much unskilled in the local lifestyle. An immediate example of our short-comings was in the garden. Although I'm still not sure a plot of land that is large enough to park 2 semi-trailers on is still considered simply 'a garden'.

Anyway, between downpouring rain, roaming cows, unpacking, and inexperience...the planting never got done. In fact, we had really given up on our unplanted 'garden' that quickly became a 3 ft high backyard jungle. Novice farmers indeed!

But then we found it...Modern Day Manna

Okay, I know that most grocery stores call this "squash" but it was truly a gift to us. What fun to discover these golden treasures in our 'garden', and then weeks later we found some potatoes too. The blessings continued this past week as we made meals with garden fresh corn, cucumbers, onions, green beans, and tomatoes that 3 kind families have shared with us.

While I still wish I had the skills to grow, harvest, and store the food from a huge garden, I am encouraged. My heart is reminded that God is faithful. Even though we are in a time of 'wandering', we are not wandering aimlessly. I know that He is leading us to a good place.

Just hoping that it does not take us 40 years to get there!

God is good ALL the time, what a blessing to see tangible reminders of His goodness and faithfulness to us on the journey. You blessed me with this entry...see you in 5 days :) T

We have been enjoying our small garden Les planted this summer. Lots of tomatoes right now and a few squash, potatoes and beets yet to eat. Hope it doesn't freeze too soon. We had a frost earlier we covered the tomatoes and got through ok.
Samuel is looking good too and enjoying the farm life. How's Ethan doing? We are fine here and busy. Love, Aunt Diane
