This summer, we have learned that while kids sure do grow up fast... chickens grow faster!
3 days old: just arrived from the hatchery. They live indoors on wood chip bedding. The overhead heat lamps are important to keep the small chicks warm.
3 weeks old: out to fresh grass. Each 10x12 pen holds 75 chickens. After being pulled to a fresh patch of grass every morning, they are also given a grain mix and water.
6 weeks old: the chickens have grown a lot in size. They now need feed and water twice daily.
8 weeks old: ideal size and age...this was the last day with our last batch. Between April 9-September 24, we raised 6,200 broilers that ended up in family freezers and restaurant kitchens!

You can feel so good in the fact that you helped contribute good food to so many people in the last six months. We were blessed to have some of it too...yummy!! Love you, T
