Abigail and Samuel are now continuing the family tradition... meet Virginia's newest farmers!
- They took left over building supplies and made a miniature sized pin (with some help from their dad)
- Both took money from their savings to pay for 10 chicks and a daily feed bill
- Every morning they pull their pin to fresh grass
- Twice each day they feed and water
- At the end of each batch, they help us process
This is what the pasture looks like after the first batch. The grass that the pins were pulled over is growing back in a much deeper, richer green. Their business helped accomplish that and they love pointing it out!
Being the children of an accounting major, they are also learning how to keep records. A column for expenses + a column for income = a really great math lesson. With their profits, they are learning to tithe, save, then spend from what they earn, which is a really great life lesson.
Our family is currently selling our packaged broilers to a farm that markets them for us, so Abigail and Samuel's chickens were sold there too. We are paid per pound. Abigail recently asked me if we would allow her and Samuel to find their own customers so they could make a higher return. See what I mean? At 9 and 7 years old, they are all about business!

I am glad that Joe's entrepreneurial spirit lives on!
PS Have you received a package in the mail yet?
Hey my sweet friends...so do you ship to Arizona??? If so I'm in the market and my freezer is way low on chicken. I'm so very proud of both of you and what you have accomplished in your short time in VA!! I look forward to the day when I can come see your "Peaceful Pastures"! Love you, Miss Tiffany
Love this! It was so fun to read about their business plans!
Every year, my kids think we should sell things from our garden at the farmers market. Maybe next year I should give them their own plot to take care of and then they can sell their produce to family.
