Happy Fall, Y'all

Fall has arrived in Virginia!
The weather is much cooler, the leaves are changing, and our days are much more full. Here's a peek into our autumn activities...

Harvest time is here and our kitchen has been busy. We canned peaches for the first time. Then, made some jam with local peaches and the blackberries that grow right on this farm. The last jalapenos and green peppers from our garden became jelly too. I baked bread for the first time EVER... and we are all addicted. Thanks to Jaime for the great recipe.

Fall means full time back to school in our home. We are busy studying History, Science, Literature, Grammar, Bible, Spelling, and Math.

This year Ethan is joining us. He is working on learning his letters and numbers, and loves having his very own school books!

Our house is now filled with music! Abigail and Samuel both started piano lessons and we are learning a new language. Quarter notes, middle c, and other terms are peppering conversations and stretching our minds a bit.

In order for them to practic, we bought a new piano. Well, its new to us... a family was moving and listed it on Craigslist for $50. We were thrilled to find a great deal and to get help with moving all 500 pounds of it into the house!

Work on this farm, and helping a neighbor for a few days, have been keeping us very busy lately. Like this pair of work boots that Brent finally retired this week, we are feeling a little spent. Completing one last push before winter has become everyone's goal.
It is amazing the amount of miles that we walk in this new life. Across pastures, to the barn, loading trailers... the work is good, but winter is calling like the new pair of boots. It brings comfort... a season of rest and reflection, cool evenings spent in the warm house, and time to slow down and visit.
There are so many reasons to love fall!

I love this time a year..when we can really see the fruits of our labor. I am getting ready for the apples and making apple pies and jam and applesauce. Maybe even some apple butter (but not over a fire all day long in a copper pot) in a crockpot. Thank you for sharing your wonderful delights of fall..Love ya PeriDawn

Yay...I'm glad that you made the bread and it looks fabulous! All of your preserves look awesome. I too out up some peaches, but that was the extent of it. Little Kaden makes it hard to do those things anymore.
